The Melon radish is originally from China where it is called “shinrimei” from “xin li mei” which loosely translates to “in his heart,
it is beautiful”. It’s an apt nickname for a vegetable whose creamy ivory color hides its fiery pink heart.
This radish, related to Chinese daikon and belonging to the brassica family This wonderful radish is nothing trivial.
It is a magnificent vegetable that is as enticing as it is tasty. Its vibrant and spicy flavor and unique coloring is one of my favorites
that I share with my guests who marvel at the beauty of this vegetable.
This variety does not like heat, so you have to cultivate it early in the spring,
or around the middle of August, moreover I prefer to cultivate it in this period because it tolerates our winters and the taste of these radishes
are more succulent.
They become as sweet as you want with a slightly spicy taste.
You can grow them in an outdoor greenhouse or in a cold frame and even on the ground directly with the addition of garden cover and leaves at the end of October-November,
you can go harvest them even during the winter.
It can be served in a salad, in a sandwich, in an elegant seafood dish, in soups, add to Kimchi and even in lactofermentation.
